As part of Waruna Group’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, Waruna collaborated with Yayasan Gerakan Peduli Sungai (GPS) through the River Care Guard program in Medan.
Taking place on Friday, 18 September 2026, the program focused on protecting the Deli River ecosystem while encouraging greater community participation in environmental conservation.
The initiative brought together Waruna employees, including winners of the Waruna Walk - Run - Ride Virtual Challenge 2026 (W-Unstoppable) in Medan, local community volunteers, and GPS to take part in three key activities:
Cleaning Up the Deli River

Participants explored sections of the Deli River while collecting waste found in and around the river. This activity was a direct effort to support a cleaner river environment while raising awareness of the importance of keeping waterways free from waste.
Through the river clean-up activity more than 28 kilograms of waste were successfully removed from the river, contributing to cleaner waterways and a healthier river ecosystem.
Planting Trees Along the Watershed

Tree planting was carried out in designated areas within the river watershed. Beyond adding green spaces, the activity was intended to support the resilience of the river ecosystem and help strengthen the surrounding environment.
Waste Management Training

Local communities also received practical education on waste management, including proper waste sorting, handling, and processing. The session encouraged participants to apply better waste management practices in their daily lives.
Through this River Care Guard, Waruna supports the protection of the Deli River and encourages collaboration between the private sector, communities, and environmental organizations. The initiative is part of Waruna’s ongoing efforts to turn environmental awareness into actio
