A Harbour tug is a vessel built to move in order to assist another vessel by towing or pushing it, either in a harbour, or in the middle of the sea. Harbour tugs facilitate the passage of large ships since they cannot turn abruptly at low speeds due to a lack of water, or when they are travelling through rivers with tight regions where they cannot maintain their equilibrium. Harbour tug also used to tow damaged or sinking ships from one location to another so that they can be hauled there to be repaired. The movement or maneuvering can be done by direct contact between the harbour tug and other vessels or by using a tow rope, therefore the harbour tug not only has an important role in ensuring the safety, efficiency and smooth operation of both the Port and other waters, but also must be responsible for other vessels.
Harbour tugs are carefully developed with very strong Horsepower, and their strength is confirmed by frequently conducted tests and official class-recognized certificates, despite their small dimensions compared to other large vessels. Harbour Tug operations are not always simple, and they frequently deal with difficulties including bad weather, high maritime traffic, environmental risks, and regular repair responsibilities.
However, we overcome these difficulties by hiring crew members who are highly qualified and experienced. We follow strict rules relating to safety and the environment to ensure safe and environmentally friendly operations so that the vessel is said to be seaworthy.
Harbour tugs continue to be an indispensable, integral part of the maritime industry because of their crucial role in assisting and sustaining the efficient operation of ports and marine transportation. Tugs are utilized in a variety of businesses, from the cruise industry to the oil industry, and they play a vital part in all of them.
The Waruna Group company, PT Pelayaran Multi Jaya Samudera is in charge of supplying and managing Harbour tugs. The Z-Peller, one of the varieties of Harbour tugs run by PT Pelayaran Multi Jaya Samudera, is outfitted with engines that have a power range of 2,000 to 4,400 horsepower. Currently, we manage more than 40 vessels throughout several important ports in Indonesia, including Cilacap, Balongan, Tg. Priok, Situbondo, Merak, and Batam.
