TANGERANG, February 22, 2025 – Waruna Group, one of Indonesia’s largest shipyard and shipping companies, collaborated with LindungiHutan, a green startup focused on forest conservation in Indonesia, to carry out an environmental initiative by planting 2,000 mangrove trees in Sukawali Village, Tangerang. The initiative aims to address environmental degradation and coastal abrasion affecting the area.
Sukawali Village, home to mangrove forests along the KSS Coast (Kramat Sukawali and Suryabahari Beach), has experienced significant shoreline erosion caused by sea waves and tidal activity. Martha Dini, Business Support Director of Waruna Group, explained that the mangrove planting program is part of the Company’s effort to stabilize the coastline and mitigate the impact of coastal abrasion.

"Guided by our spirit of ‘Navigating through Sustainable Tomorrow,’ we recognize the importance of sustainable coastal ecosystem restoration in preventing the expansion of erosion-related impacts. The planting of 2,000 mangrove trees reflects our commitment to helping restore coastal ecosystems and prevent further environmental damage," said Martha.

Miftachur “Ben” Robani, CEO of LindungiHutan, expressed his appreciation for Waruna Group’s initiative.
"Mangrove planting not only helps reduce carbon emissions but also supports biodiversity conservation along the coast of Sukawali Village," Ben explained.
In addition to the planting activity, both organizations will conduct ongoing monitoring and carbon sequestration assessments. Based on guidelines from Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the project is estimated to absorb approximately 236 kg CO₂eq.
As part of its social responsibility efforts, Waruna Group also provided educational support for the local community, including school bags, stationery, whiteboards, and study desks for children and the Rumah Pintar (Community Learning Center) in Sukawali Village.
"We hope to contribute to improving the quality of education within the Sukawali community," Martha added.
This initiative forms part of Waruna Group’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and its dedication to creating a positive impact for local communities.
