Pari Island, 10 July 2026 – Reinforcing its commitment to preserving Indonesia's marine ecosystem, Waruna Group, one of Indonesia's leading shipping and shipyard companies, has launched its seagrass conservation initiative by planting 8,000 seagrass at Kresek Beach, Pari Island. This marks the company's first step in supporting coastal resilience and promoting sustainable marine ecosystems.
The initiative brought together Waruna Group employees, Seagrass Indonesia, and the Pari Island Women's Community in a collaborative effort to restore coastal habitats through seagrass planting.
Seagrass is a flowering marine plant that grows entirely underwater. Unlike seaweed, which belongs to the algae group, seagrass is a true vascular plant with roots, stems, and leaves, capable of producing flowers, fruits, and seeds. Seagrass meadows play a vital role in supporting marine biodiversity, storing blue carbon, protecting coastlines from erosion, and maintaining healthy coastal ecosystems.
Through this initiative, Waruna Group aims to contribute meaningfully to marine conservation while strengthening partnerships with local communities.
Looking ahead, the company hopes this initiative will serve as the beginning of a long-term collaboration with the people of Pari Island.
